No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for rapid decision-making, how the process operates, and what happens if standard underwriting applies instead.

Numerous carriers today offer rapid underwriting: applicants in certain age brackets and amount ranges receive decisions based on application details, prescription databases, driving records and other data—without an in-person exam. Many determinations are made within a business day. This site's quotes indicate whether each product calls for an exam as required, optional, or waived.

What it changes

Rapid underwriting does not mean no underwriting. The carrier will substantiate your statements, and policies issued based on false information may be challengeable within the first twenty-four months. If the carrier discovers discrepancies through its database access, they might require an exam or bloodwork before proceeding—you'll have the choice to continue or withdraw.

Who tends to qualify

Generally, applicants below roughly age 60 seeking amounts within the carrier's rapid underwriting limit, with a clean health background and no current tobacco use within the past twelve months. Some insurers will substitute recent doctor's office lab results for a full exam when the data is current.

If an exam becomes necessary, it's generally a half-hour appointment with a paramedical examiner at your home or workplace in the Monterey region, at no charge. For healthy candidates, examination results frequently result in improved underwriting classification, so this isn't always a drawback.
